More Information About Acne

Among all skin conditions, acne is the most common. It affects the skin, causing blemishes when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Acne can come in the form of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, or greasy skin.

Acne is relatively common among teenagers, affecting around 80-90%, but it can also continue well into adulthood. There are four main factors that can cause acne, they include: oil production, dead skin cells, clogged pores and bacteria. Typically, acne appears on areas of the body with the most oil glands such as the face, neck, shoulders and back. Certain factors can contribute to the production of acne or worsen an existing case such as: hormone levels, certain medications, diet and stress.

For some, acne is not just a cosmetic condition. Because the face is often one of the primary areas affected, it can have an emotional impact. The change of physical appearance caused by acne can contribute to low-self esteem and loss of confidence which may lead to stress, anxiety or depression for some.
